In joining a community it is advised to make sure the leadership has proper qualification and formal training. Lee Ann Kyoan Nail studied with three key teachers each of whom descend from Soto and Rinzai lineages. She began as a formal student of John Daido Loori Roshi at Zen Mountain Monastery in 1985 and served as head seminarian (Shuso) in 1993. She additionally studied with Ruben Habito Roshi (Harada-Yasutani lineage), receiving transmission from him in 2012 and with Leonard Marcel Roshi (Harada-Yasutani lineage), receiving transmission (in the Diamond Sangha lineage) in 2018. She brings a warm, welcoming and clear direction to this 2500-year-old  tradition of Sangha life and study together.
